Buckley Plan Would Make Problem Worse

On February 24, 2009, in Uncategorized, by Chuck Muth

Geoffrey Lawrence of the Nevada Policy Research Institute (NPRI) has taken a look at Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley’s highly-touted plan (AB 149) to ease the suffering of home owners who bought too much house and/or purchased it on bad terms and are facing foreclosure. And Mr. Lawrence has determined – get this – that the Democrat’s proposal would only make a bad situation worse. What were the odds?

Defending Conservatism

On February 21, 2009, in Uncategorized, by Chuck Muth

Moderate Republicans such as state Sen. Bill Raggio (R-Reno) are telling conservative Republicans that the party has to move to the center if it wants to win elections – including support for tax hikes if Sen. Raggio decides they’re necessary…which he does. And any conservative Republican who disagrees with him is apparently an “extremist.” At least that’s how the good senator is describing “no new taxes” folks.

I’ll Take Jefferson Any Day

On February 19, 2009, in Uncategorized, by Chuck Muth

What is with this sudden Democrat reverence for Abraham Lincoln? First Barack Obama and now Harry Reid.

“The week’s ceremonies afforded us the opportunity to think about the many special qualities of Abraham Lincoln that have captured our national imagination these many years,” Reid said in a speech at the Nevada Legislature on Wednesday. “The trait that I most admire is Lincoln’s unsurpassed ability to bring people together.”

Yeah, he brought some 620,000 Americans together at Pearly Gates during the Civil War.

Remember that Nastygram which moderate Republican Sen. Bill Raggio sent to conservative Assemblyman Ed Goedhart last week smacking him around for opposing tax hikes? In that email, Sen. Raggio also wrote derisively, “I think your comments were authored by Chuck Muth…”

Police State Wins a Round

On February 19, 2009, in Uncategorized, by Chuck Muth

“The Senate Energy, Infrastructure and Transportation, voted at 10:30 this morning 4 in favor 2 opposed to SB116,” writes Janine Hansen of Nevada Families.

“SB116 makes not wearing a seat belt a primary offense,” Ms. Hansen explains, “which means the police can stop you at any time for any reason to see if you are wearing your seat belt. The current law prohibits the issuance of a citation for failure to wear a safety belt unless the vehicle is stopped or the person is arrested for another offense. By removing this provision, this bill allows the issuance of a citation for not wearing a seat belt even if there is no other violation. We are moving towards a police state.”

Voting to move Nevada ever closer to a police state were moderate Republican Sens. Randolph Townsend and Dennis Nolan. Conservative Republican Sen. Barbara Cegavske cast the lone GOP vote for continued individual liberty and freedom. You can thank her via email at: bcegavske@sen.state.nv.us
