Sandoval and the Tax Pledge

Immediately upon announcing as a Republican candidate for governor last week, former federal judge Brian Sandoval declared that the would not sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge promising voters that as governor he would “oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes.”

Is Sandoval Deja Vu All Over Again?

Minutes after stepping down from his lifetime appointment as a federal judge so that Barack Obama and Harry Reid could fill his seat with a hard-core liberal, Brian Sandoval declared himself a candidate for governor last night. He enters the GOP primary race against incumbent Gov. Jim Gibbons, former state Sen. Joe Heck and former North Las Vegas Mayor Mike Montandon.

Jim Gibbons’ administration, has thrown her hat in the ring for the state Assembly seat in District 32 being vacated by conservative Republican Assemblyman Don Gustavson, who is expected to soon announce his campaign for the state senate seat being vacated by GOP Sen. Maurice Washington.

So I can’t let pass a major-league example of supreme hypocrisy displayed this week by Rew Goodenow, the Nevada GOP’s lawyer.

A follow-up to yesterday’s reports on John Ensign’s private meeting with a dozen GOP luminaries this past week in which he claimed to have done more to help the Republican Party than anyone else, citing his part in raising money a decade ago to pay off the Nevada GOP’s debt of approximately $400,000.

Ensign Shucks and Jives

Sen. John Ensign met privately with about a dozen GOP activists this week to apologize for the “distraction” caused by his indiscretion with another man’s wife. But reports from some in attendance indicate that most didn’t give a rat’s pitooey about the affair. What they were seeing red over is the fact that the state GOP is broke, has no staff, no headquarters, no voter registration program….and what was John Ensign going to do about it?
