The connection, if you haven't already figured it out, is UNLV. They are all UNLV students so probably someone was standing on the walk way by north field with a clipboard asking for signatures and probably not being entirely honest about what the petition was for.

I see my name on the list and while I don't recall signing a petition for that, I can see where it might have happened. I was more tea party involved before I moved here and have only been to a couple of events since moving to Vegas last year.

I see that my name is on the list and I don't mind though I didn't do anything to organize the tea party, I however do support it fully and would be active in it provided I wasn't in school or work all the time.

Everyone who is upset that your name is on the list, don't lose sight of the point of the story. The point is that the "Tea Party of Nevada" is not a legitimate party and is not supported by the Tea Party movement. The Tea Party per se is a loose group of people who believe we are Taxed Enough Already. The movement was initially started as a push back against the Tarp and Stimulus Bills. Tea Party attendees believed that banks who made risky loans deserved to fail, and should not be bailed out by the taxpayers. Tea Party people also believe that the government debt is unsustainable and will bankrupt our country during future generations. The reports of the Tea Partiers as being racist, astro turf, etc are attempts to discredit the message that the American People are upset about SPENDING and hold both parties accountable. Right now, Republicans are listening and Democrats are not, but the movement is bipartisan. The Tea Party is also looking to bring down Republicans who have overspent and traded away constitutional freedoms. Go to a Tea Party if you want to find out who the people are. Don't believe the biased news reports. Go investigate for yourself, it will be an eye opener. The vast majority of people are very polite and well informed. I attended a Tea Party, and believe it or not, there were black and latino people present in addition to white people.

Unfortunately, whoever circulated the petition WAS able to get your signatures and that person turned those signatures in to qualify John Ashjian as a Tea Party of Nevada candidate for the United States Senate. As such, the names of those who signed the petition because public record. And since the petition has already been turned in and certified, I don't know how, short of a legal action, you'll be able to have your names removed. But the place to start looking for answers is the Clark County Elections Department. That's who has the official list which was turned in and is public record.

I'm "on" the list, as well. I'm a Senior in the Political Science department at UNLV. The young people who circulated the petition brought ONLY the signature pages (unattached to the petition form) and circulated the same under the guise that they we conducting a survey of college students to "determine the feasibility of a 3rd party in UNLV student elections". Since the petition was circulated reasonably close to UNLV's elections, I'm sure my fellow students and I didn't imagine that petition would be used to establish a legitimate alternative party at the state level. People I know and associate with have lost jobs and job opportunities over this list and am requesting not only that this list be taken down but that all who request it have their names removed from the petition. I am willing and able to seek a court injunction towards the same. Thank you. I am a life-long Conservative and, though I agree with the Tea Party on many fiscal issues, I'm not willing to go hand-in-hand with all of their tenets. It kind of saddens me that a side I generally agree with would stoop to such a level when a legitimate process more than certainly would've done.
