I’m the government and I just want to keep helping. That’s the sales message coming from Democrats such as Nevada state Sen. Joyce Woodhouse (D-Henderson) up and down the ballot this election cycle. And voters/taxpayers would be insane to keep buying the snake oil. Continue reading »
Without mentioning any names, consider this a teachable moment for you candidates out there. Continue reading »
Voice of America is reporting that “Coalition officials in Afghanistan say they intercepted a message from Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar, ordering his followers to never surrender and kill any civilians suspected of helping the coalition forces.”
Does anyone else remember about nine years ago when a Predator had Mullah Omar’s car in its sights but the request to shoot a Hellfire missile up his tailpipe was denied by military lawyers who were afraid some civilians might be killed or injured, violating the rules of engagement? How many innocent civilians do you think have been killed and will be killed because of that asinine decision? Continue reading »
Adding salt to an open wound, Gov. Jim Gibbons announced today the appointment of Donna Ruthe – the chief antagonist against Guinn’s son, Jeff, in a nasty lawsuit – to the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners on the exact same day former Gov. Kenny Guinn was being buried in his hometown of Exeter, CA. Real class, Governor.
On the other hand,

My apologies for being gone so long. Between the Right Online conservative blogger conference in Las Vegas last weekend and losing my friend Kenny Guinn last Thursday, time just wasn’t on my side. But let’s hop right back in the saddle again, shall we? Continue reading »
Accepting the fact that I will likely be kicked out of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy Club for this, I will nevertheless declare that former Gov. Kenny Guinn – who died last week way, way, way too soon – was no RINO (Republican In Name Only). Here’s why. Continue reading »
The Clark County school district is looking for a new chief while political candidates up-and-down the ballot bleat about the lousy state of public schools in Nevada.
While the left, under the direction of the teachers union, continues to say all it takes to fix the problem is mo’ money, the right points out that dramatic non-monetary changes in the system is what’s called for. The left, as usual, is wrong….and if the right is looking for the right role model for Clark County, it should follow the lead of Michelle Rhee, superintendent of the Washington, DC, public school system. And update from James Hall of the Young Leaders Program at the Heritage Foundation: Continue reading »
I received an email on Friday from one Floyd Fitzgibbons – the 2009 chapter leader for the John Birch Society and independent candidate for Nevada governor. An excerpt:
* Do we need to repent?
* Do most of our countrymen worship God, attend some religious service or make prayer a daily part of their lives?
* Do most refrain from sex outside the bonds of marriage?
* Over 1,000,000 abortions are performed annually in the United States.
* Do our leaders send troops to wars in foreign lands for reasons of national security that have no basis in fact (like Weapons of Mass Destruction) then keep them there for years and expand the war into other countries, too?
Sounds more like he’s running for parish priest than the state’s chief executive.
• One of the more interesting dynamics in Nevada’s U.S. Senate race are the growing number of groups and organizations who you would think would be slam-dunk supporters of Sharron Angle – like the National Rifle Association and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce – who are nevertheless reportedly mulling support for Reid (or “going Swiss”) simply because whoever would replace Reid as Senate Majority Leader for the Democrats would be measurably worse.
• Reid is, literally, the lesser of two evils in their minds….and probably even in reality. Continue reading »
A few weeks ago it was revealed that Sen. John Ensign (R-Nevada) had established a legal defense fund.
At the time it was believed that the shakedown….er, fund was established to help Ensign himself pay the legal bills associated with his indefensible defense of sleeping with a staffer’s wife, then helping the staffer illegally get lobbying contracts, and finally having his parents pay off the staffer’s wife and family to the tune of ninety-six large in an effort to cover-up the whole sordid affair.
Few thought the establishment of this self-serving fund could actually be even more nefarious than it was on the surface. But we’re dealing with John Ensign here, folks. Continue reading »
