Gov. Brian Sandoval has submitted a bill (SB 41) almost a month ago that would eliminate mandatory collective bargaining for local government employers and the unions aren’t having a cow over and most conservatives don’t know the proposal exists. How’d this one get by so many folks?
Meanwhile, you gotta love what’s going on in North Las Vegas these days. City Councilman Richard Cherchio is a retired postal worker and union boss. Yet he’s being hammered and targeted for defeat in the upcoming municipal elections by local government employee unions who are ticked off at Cherchio for backing plans to lay off city workers unless the unions make significant concessions in order to balance the city’s budget.
No honor among thieves?
And finally, “A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 45% of Americans now at least somewhat favor unions for public employees, while the identical number (45%) are opposed to them. In May of last year, 53% of Adults favored unions for public employees, while 37% opposed them.”
Looks like government employee and union boss greed is finally catching up with them.

Greed? How about demanding more work from one’s employees without giving them the increase in payroll? How about some of our large local businesses just hiring part-time employees only? How about those banks setting up new fees just to increase their profits?
How about some local companies raising their fees for their service? Did you notice the increase in the price of gas? Did you use the word “greed”?
As a concerned citizen I want to be more than just a Henderson, NV resident with a lot of opinions. I’d like to involve my neighbors in the great debate of government run away spending. Accordingly, I have decided to run for the Henderson City Council from Ward – 1, in the April 05, 2011 municipal primary election ( Henderson Council members are elected at large to represent each of the four city wards ).
As a city council member I will propose, among other things, a BOLD, consequential, and TRANSFORMATIVE REFORM to CAP public employees total compensation, for starters, at $100,000.00 per annum ! This LIMIT amount to include pension payment, current salary or wages, near free health care plan, retirement contribution, vacation and sick pays, easily awarded disabiltiy check, the gimmicky union raises such as COLA, longevity pay, step increases etc etc.
The cap will be applicable to ALL TAXPAYER FUNDED city employees, including union represented personnel, city managers and executives.
Furthermore, everyone on the city government payroll MUST take a paycut immediately ! If they don’t like it, I invite them to compete in the public sector, like the rest of us, at a much lower compensation.
Recently Federal Reserve Bank Chairman Ben Bernanke testified before Congress stating that the US economy will not fully recover until five (5) years from now or 2016…
Hendersonians, homeowners, business owners and consumers, are taking a beating financially. Public servants should sacrifice accordingly !
Sincerely,
Edward “The Frugal” Hamilton
