Lucy, You Got Some ‘Splainin’ to Do!

On February 27, 2012, in Uncategorized, by Chuck Muth

The UNLV College Republicans are slamming Nevada Assemblywoman Lucy Flores – a graduate of UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law – questioning her qualifications to hold office after it was revealed a week ago that she “may have violated campaign finance laws by not reporting the spending of” campaign funds (see above).

The Las Vegas Democrat said last week that it would have been easier to comply with disclosure requirements if she had “a staffer that the state paid for to record every single one of [her] receipts.” And yes, she was dead serious.

Dems Scurrying like Roaches when Light Turned On

On February 27, 2012, in Uncategorized, by Chuck Muth

Anjeanette Damon of the Las Vegas Sun reported on Sunday that seven Democrat state legislators had tried to keep secret certain expenditures they made with donated campaign funds, “following the advice of their lawyer, who said they didn’t have to report expenses that were not directly related to campaign efforts.”

But after being threatened with sanctions for campaign violations last week, “the Democrats then reversed course and filed new expense reports, detailing nearly $45,000 in campaign fund spending on a slew of living expenses during the legislative session in Carson City. These included rent, electronics, house cleaning and supplies, groceries, lunches and dinners at Carson City restaurants and even bottled water.

Tempest in the Tea Party Pot

On February 23, 2012, in Uncategorized, by Chuck Muth

Meanwhile, tea party activists Karen Steelmon and Penny Hess have stirred up a major league hornet’s nest by promoting a fundraising event for liberal Democrat congressional candidate John Oceguera – running against incumbent conservative Republican Rep. Joe Heck – which is being hosted by uber-liberal Democrat Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani next month.

The rest of the tea party movement and legitimate tea party leaders are furious, with one suggesting Steelmon is either a fraud or a Democrat mole. Others are demanding to be taken off the pair’s email list. And I understand there’s a bucket of tar being heated up next to the feather-pillow factory.

Look, it’s one thing to be non-partisan; it’s another thing to be non-conservative. If a tea party group wants to promote a moderate Democrat vs. a liberal Democrat…fine. But to promote a liberal Democrat over a conservative Republican? That’s insane. If you’re a real tea partier, that is.

In the immortal words of Ricky Ricardo, Steelmon and Hess “have some ‘slainin’ to do.”

Master & (Steve) Commander

On February 23, 2012, in Uncategorized, by Chuck Muth

Tea party reject Steve “Master &” Commander has written an email dumping on conservative Republican state senate candidate Dr. Annette Teijeiro. “Personal experiences with Annette,” Commander writes, “as well as others I have talked with, point to issues that seriously question Annette’s overall ‘qualifications.’”

Hmm. Word on the street is that his “personal experiences” include the Teijeiro campaign telling Master & Commander that his non-existent strategic campaign genius wasn’t needed. So this really is just a big ol’ bowl of sour grapes.

One recipient of the email responded: “I am not sure what ‘personal experiences’ anyone may have had, or what ‘others say’…that sounds like a witch hunt to me, not to mention a lot of gossip.” Another added: “Pretty lame, making an assessment (about qualifications) like that and offering nothing in evidence.”

Yep, pretty lame indeed. But par for the course for Steve “Master &” Commander.

A simple “good for goose/good for gander” lawsuit on behalf of the citizens of Nevada has scared the Shinola out of the state’s power elite. Here’s the deal.

On January 18, 2012 my organization, Citizen Outreach, joined a lawsuit filed against Ross Miller in his capacity as Nevada’s Secretary of State. At issue is the fact that despite a constitutional requirement that “Each law enacted by the Legislature shall embrace but one subject,” the Legislature has routinely enacted legislation covering far more than one subject.

Marketing expert Dan Kennedy writes about watching a Sunday morning news debate over unemployment when a young worker posed the following question to management and unions:

“How will YOU help me avoid losing my job in the future?”

Indeed, the very nature of the question tells you what’s wrong in this country today when it comes to employment.

Chairman Smack Smacks Down Orrin Johnson

On February 20, 2012, in Uncategorized, by Chuck Muth

Last week a brouhaha broke out over Interim Nevada GOP Chairman James Smack’s decision to relieve Finance Chairman John Chachas – the former Nevada U.S. Senate candidate who STILL doesn’t live in Nevada – of his position.

“In the best interest of the Nevada Republican Party, I feel it is time to evaluate the performance of the committees and make some changes,” Smack wrote in an email to Chachas. “Therefore, I’ll be reviewing candidates to chair Standing Committees, and I’m relieving you of your duties as committee chairman for the Finance Committee at this time. Thank you very much for your service to the Nevada Republican Party.”

In an email response, Mr. Chachas claims he’s had a hard time doing his job because there’s a perception out there that “people are wasting their money donating to a dysfunctional state party.” He ended with this not-so-veiled threat:

Famous Last Words on the Halseth Scandal

On February 20, 2012, in Uncategorized, by Chuck Muth

“Great reporting (on the Elizabeth Halseth resignation). I pretty much feel the same way about ALL politicians. Virtually ALL are ‘dirty.’ Good job pouncing on the truth.” – SSC reader TigerLily Gonzalez

“Elizabeth Halseth is trying to victimize her husband. How many times have men gotten the shaft like this? As far as I’m concerned, for the most part, the offending spouse breaking things up should give up the kids. Good reporting Chuck. Thanks for not letting her get away with this.” – SSC reader Don N.

The Elizabeth Halseth Story: Epilogue

On February 19, 2012, in Uncategorized, by Chuck Muth

So Nevada State Sen. Elizabeth Halseth (R-Cheaterville) finally opted to resign in disgrace on Friday and that, politically speaking, should be that.

However, in her resignation letter – which was dripping in that stuff that comes out the south end of a Brahman bull – Sen. Harlot opted to poke the bear. So a few final words as a parting gift for Ms. Family Values.

Hasta la Vista, Sen. Halseth!

On February 17, 2012, in Uncategorized, by Chuck Muth

In case you haven’t heard yet, Nevada State Sen. Elizabeth Halseth (R-Cheaterville) finally and belatedly quit today, telling Gov. Brian Sandoval that because of the “level of trust” her constituents have placed in her, she feels compelled to resign.

Of course, if she hadn’t violated the “level of trust” her husband had placed with her when they exchanged marriage vows, none of this would have been necessary, would it Senator?

Halseth also whined about her “reputation and integrity being regularly demonized by selfish partisans and a handful of reckless bloggers.” Gee, I wonder who she’s talking about there?

She also laughably claimed that because of “salacious, unfounded personal attacks” on her…what was it again? oh, yeah…reputation and integrity, that it’s now “impossible to locate employment here in Nevada.”

What a load of horse crap.

Believe you me, there’s a LOT more to this story that I haven’t told y’all yet – including what was REALLY behind the TIMING of Sen. Harlot’s…er, Halseth’s resignation (do you really think it was just because the Democrats had a cow over her missing a legislative meeting two days ago?), which I shall share with you in what will be the Epilogue of “The Elizabeth Halseth Story” later this weekend.

And somehow, I suspect this final installment is going to be a real barn-burner! Reckless blogger, indeed.
