Chuck, I happened on your site when I found I had saved it in my favorites. I used to get your e-newsletters and I really miss them. I’m sick and tired of all the morons who have labeled themselves as conservatives when they don’t have a clue what it means. Keep up the good work and if you have any newsletters you still send out, I’d like to be included.
Chuck,
I would like to respond to the Guest Column about the Post Office is Doomed by Rich Smith. Too many people are overlooking a very major contract that we have with the rest of the world nation’s in an organization caled the Universal Postal Union (UPU). There is an agreement in place that we will deliver their mail and they will deliver our mail. We set the price for sending the mail to their country and they set their prices. In actuality, we have one of the cheapest prices.
The reason the prices are so cheap is because it is controlled by our Congress, not by our Post Master General. He must go to Congress and request an increase in the postal rates. All too often, he is denied or he is given a penny or two increase. For example, the cost of a postcard this year went from $0.28 to $0.29. It would have been far more logical to make it $0.30. But there was no increase in the first ounce of a first class letter; only on the second ounce and still it was just one penny. Go figure!
There is nothing I can find that makes sense about our Congressmen when they try to save pennies over dollars. The post office will have to be saved because of international agreements but the Congress isn’t smart enough to know why and provide the nickles and dollars approval to do so. Instead we will have to bail them out with our tax dollars.
RE: FEDEX! How true. I recall that period between my AF retirement and landing a full time job vividly. First, “unemployment” is a trap because of the RULES that actually get in the way of finding work. Second, “job shops” can save the bacon and put food on the table. In one way, they pass the FEDEX “duck test” because the place one works at hired a service, not the person doing the work. That way, someone else handles the multiple taxes, Workman Comp headaches, etc. Benefit for the “Temp” is that he or she can sign on with a bunch of those outfits and, when I was in Sacramento, there were five of them on my rotation who got called until there was a “hit”. Third, “Government” employment offices are a waste of time with one exception: They may help one get a “government” job but now USA Jobs is on line; so, why mess with EDD, Workforce, or whatever they call it?

Brookings EconDev Report Just Mumbo-Jumbo Gumbo…..
Who’s this guy (GOV BS) trying to kid? There wasn’t a single NEW idea in the rehashed baloney that came out of GOV BS’s mouth.
Commissions, agencies, initiatives and on and on.
PRODUCTION is the key to prosperity NOT government! Get government out of the way and let the private sector do what needs to be done!
