Memo to GOP Leaders: There are Other Democrats in Nevada!

At the risk of offending my close, personal friends in the Nevada and Clark County Republican Party organizations (which, as everyone knows, I hardly EVER do), I nonetheless feel compelled to point out the obvious which they’ve obviously missed.

Did you know that there are other Democrats serving in elected positions in Nevada other than Harry Reid?

Did you know that the two members of Congress who represent most of Clark County are Democrats?

Did you know that the Chairman of the Clark County Commission is a Democrat who is also running for governor?

Did you know that every member of the Clark County Commission is a Democrat?

Did you know that the Mayor of Las Vegas is a Democrat?

Did you know that all but one member of the Las Vegas City Council is a Democrat?

Did you know that the State Senate Majority Leader is a Democrat?

Did you know that the Assembly Speaker is a Democrat?

Did you know that the Assembly Majority Leader (and lady-in-waiting to be the next Assembly Speaker) is a Democrat?

Did you know that the vast majority of other elected officials in legislative, school board and local and city elected positions are Democrats?

You did?

Then can you explain to me why the ONLY Democrat you folks seem to take any interest in is Harry Reid? I mean, why is it that the ONLY press releases, blog posts or email statements you folks ever issue are about Harry Reid?

And why, pray tell, do you folks seem to ONLY issue press releases, blog posts and email statements that were clearly drafted and distributed by the Republican National Committee (RNC) or the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) or the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC)?

I mean, are there NO Republicans in Nevada capable of writing a press release, blog post or statement which doesn’t drip with inside-the-beltway Washington cookie-cutter rhetoric? (“out of touch,” “liberal cronies,” “hardworking families”)

Here, let me give you a couple of very simple helpful suggestions on how to do a better job on going after Democrats other than Harry Reid (you can still beat up on the guy, just not exclusively):

1.) Subscribe to the Las Vegas Review-Journal/Las Vegas Sun.

2.) Read it every day.

3.) Every time you read about a problem in Clark County or Las Vegas, blame it on the Democrats in a press release, blog post, or email statement. After all, with the exception of Las Vegas City Councilman Stavros Anthony, every Clark County commissioner and Las Vegas city councilman is a Democrat. They OWN every problem our community faces regarding unemployment, crime, traffic, education, taxes, spending, air quality, homelessness, health care, etc., etc., etc.

4.) Send someone to every County Commission and City Council meeting and make a note every time a Democrat says or does something dumb (bring LOTS of note paper!) and then issue a press release, blog post, or email statement about it.

Seriously, guys, this isn’t exactly rocket science. And it really doesn’t cost you anything other than some time. The benefit, on the other hand, is that you’ll start to look like, you know, a real political operation. (Note: That’s a good thing.)

OK, here’s a bonus tip:

Did you know that if Democrat Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford picks up only two seats in the November election (three are legitimately in play and one already appears to be a sure goner), he will join Democrats in the Assembly with a veto-proof majority in the upper house next year?

And do you realize that if that happens – even if Republican Brian Sandoval is elected governor – the Democrats will draw new legislative district lines in the 2011 session which will relegate the Republican Party in Nevada to minority status for at least a generation?

And did you know that Sen. Horsford hosts a radio talk-show on KCEP 88.1 FM (next show on Monday, June 28 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.) which “features the men and women who manage a mix of state programs that address jobs and employment, higher education, home ownership, health care and more.”

And did you know that such a show is often going to be a gold mine of quotes and opinions which could and should easily be converted into…are you ready for it?….a press release, blog post, or email statement?

And did you know that twice a month Sen. Horsford hosts an “open house” in his district office (next one is on Monday, June 28 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.) in which you can show up with a digital audio recorder (yep, there’s an iPhone app for that!) or video recorder and ask Sen. Horsford some tough questions?

Now, I know you people have people who know how to use this technology. I mean, come on. Some of your people are ALL OVER taping and posting meaningless incidents and arguments from GOP meetings and conventions. I mean, why don’t you people, you know, try using your technological skills against, you know, THE OPPOSITION?!!

In conclusion, let me repeat: Harry Reid is NOT the only elected Democrat in Nevada. And Harry Reid is NOT the only elected Democrat in Nevada who is a liberal. And Harry Reid is NOT the only elected Democrat in Nevada who is doing harm to our state. So….

It’s time for Nevada’s GOP “leaders” to pull their collective heads out of their collective butts and get their stuff together. This amateur-hour gang-that-can’t-shoot-straight one-ring circus of yours needs to come to a close. November is only four months away.
